The I'm Not Dead Link Cop Out
Uhhhhhm… whoops? Probably nobody else in the tubes would follow up two of their most linked up posts with almost two months of silence.
But quite a bit has happened in the last two months, such as starting a new job and my freelancing email account having a catastrophic fail right as I was attempting my return to freelance work. Suffice to say my routine was thrown into a tailspin, I spent too much time working on other projects (foreshadow!) and adjusting to a hell of a (temporary) commute.

The Apps I Use
I’m pretty sure it’s borderline illegal for an Apple geek with a website to not write about the applications they use frequently, so here goes. And, since I always find myself recommending programs to friends when they make the switch now I can just point them here.
And since I’m a total voyeur when it comes to other people’s writing on what they’re using (or reading), I figured it’s only fair to turn the spotlight on myself. Just about all of these apps I use at least once a week, and I omitted the obvious such as iTunes, iPhoto, Calculator, TextEdit and Word. I broke my list down to three main functions; Communication, Utilities, and Development. Listed alphabetically since I’d be up all night trying to order them by any kind of rank.

Cleveland, Meet Web Standards
It is my great pleasure to announce that the brand spankin’ new website for the Cleveland Web Standards Association is all systems go.
Handshakes, accolades and applause to Brad Dielman, who designed and coded (with a few tweaks here and there by me) our new home on the web.

Five Good Habits to Learn for Quality Photoshopping
Getting started with Adobe Photoshop can be a pretty daunting task. Encountering all those pallettes, menus, filters and tools for the first time can be intimidating and downright frustrating.
Recently I realized that come August, I’ll have been working with Photoshop for 10 years (the sound you hear is my own horn tooting). In that time, it’s the one piece of software I’ve used consistently and have developed some rather good (and plenty bad) habits that might come in handy for people firing it up for the first time.

Entry Level Designer Wanted, 3-5 Years Experience Necessary
A few days ago Greg Storey wrote a little something discussing the lack of available talent in the web design/development industry. To summarize, agencies and freelancers alike are swamped to the point of being “slightly crippled“, and there’s just not enough workers to go around.
Going by the reaction in the comments, and from some of my own friends in the web design world around Cleveland, this does seems to be the case. Overflow work abounds and it seems to be a good time to be an experienced web developer. But what if you’re not?

Friday Link Cop Out
So, since a few personal things came up and I just haven’t had time to sit down and write something (or finish one of the many entries I’ve started), I’m going to take the easy road and just send you off to other places of note.
Regarding the Kindle
I got some good feedback on my one sentence post regarding Amazon’s new “wireless” reading device, and plan on addressing them soon. But until then, here’s some more stuff on the Kindle:

Why the Kindle Will Fail In Just One Sentence
I’d rather pay $400.00 on actual books than on a device in which I then have to buy books to use.
Have a good Thanksgiving.

Hopping on the Book Stack Train
For just about as long as I could read, I’ve been a voracious reader. I don’t know if it’s a cause of my life-long insomnia or a reaction to it, but I’ve been staying up reading all night for as long as I can remember. Or maybe it’s because I didn’t have cable television growing up.
But I probably picked it up from my mom, herself an avid reader who used to drag my sister and I to the library every week while all the other kids watched their fancy-pants cable TV.

Why the Writers Strike is Missing the Point
So by now I’m sure everyone knows that the Writers Guild of America is on strike.
The quick version is that the writers (understandably) want better residual profits from DVD sales, and a fair cut of internet and other “new media“ sales.

Apologies and Handshakes
So if you’ve been keeping score (and I know you have!) you might remember a while back I posted about my valiant, yet tragic, struggle with downloading a podcast that just wouldn’t be downloaded from Meet the Bloggers.
I won’t rehash the entire epic struggle, but the biggest problems I had with the whole ordeal was:
